1966 Mustang V8 Auto Convertible PROJECT

1966 Ford Mustang V8 automatic convertible project with power steering and a power-operated soft top.

This Mustang is slightly different from our usual project vehicles. It had received a full, high-end restoration before suffering front-end accident damage shortly after completion. The previous owner drove into the rear of a large van, which caused the damage now visible at the front of the car.

Before the incident, this would have been a very strong restored 1966 Mustang convertible. The specification is also desirable, as it combines a V8 engine, automatic transmission, power steering and an electric convertible roof. Together, these features make the car one of the more usable first-generation Mustang configurations.

From our initial inspection, the main repair areas appear to be at the front of the vehicle. The car will require a driver-side front wing, bonnet, radiator support, radiator, cooling fan and other associated front-end components. Further inspection should also confirm the full extent of any panel alignment, structural and mechanical work needed.

The key point with this car is the quality of the base vehicle. It is not an abandoned restoration or a tired convertible needing full refurbishment. Instead, it is a previously restored Mustang that now requires accident repair to the front section.

This makes it suitable for a buyer with bodywork experience, workshop access or the ability to manage a proper front-end repair. The car should be assessed carefully before purchase, particularly around the radiator support, inner wing areas, front chassis legs and panel gaps.

Once repaired correctly, this would be a highly presentable 1966 Mustang convertible. In restored condition, a car of this type could sit in the region of £40,000 to £45,000, depending on final finish, repair quality, specification and market conditions.

Overall, this is a damaged but worthwhile 1966 Mustang V8 automatic convertible project. It needs front-end repair, replacement panels and associated cooling system components. However, it offers a strong route into a restored-grade classic Mustang convertible for someone prepared to complete the work properly.

The car comes fully registered with a UK V5C document.
