1966 Ford Mustang V8 automatic light project, finished in red with a matching red interior.
This Mustang presents as a very strong cosmetic example and requires limited mechanical work rather than a full restoration. The exterior paintwork is in very good condition and, in our opinion, should respond well to a proper machine polish. The red finish suits the 1966 body shape and gives the car a clean, period-correct appearance.
The brightwork also presents well, with very few visible marks. This is important on a first-generation Mustang, as the chrome trim, bumpers, window surrounds and exterior detailing have a major effect on the overall presentation of the car. In this case, the exterior appears complete, clean and well preserved.
The interior continues the same colour theme, with red seats, red carpets and red door cards. It presents well overall and appears to need a thorough clean rather than major trimming work. The cabin has a correct classic Mustang look, while the matching colour combination gives the car a cohesive factory-style appearance.
Underneath, the car appears to be a major positive. We can see no signs of corrosion, and the underside also appears never to have been welded or repaired. That is a significant point on a 1960s Mustang, as structural condition is often more important than paint or trim when assessing a project vehicle.
The car is fitted with a V8 engine and automatic transmission. It also has exhaust headers installed, although the exhaust system is currently incomplete. Therefore, the car will need exhaust work before regular road use.
There is also a small leak from one of the head gaskets. This should be addressed correctly as part of the recommissioning process. While the fault appears limited, any buyer should factor this into their inspection and repair plans.
If the purchaser wishes, we can arrange to complete the exhaust and head gasket work after purchase. As a guide, fitting a Shelby-style exhaust would be £500, and replacing both head gaskets would be £750. These items are not included unless agreed separately.
Overall, this 1966 Mustang is best viewed as a light project with strong cosmetic appeal and an encouraging underside. It is not being sold as a finished car. However, once the exhaust system and head gasket work have been completed, it should make a very presentable and largely original V8 automatic Mustang.
The car comes fully registered with a UK V5C document.
