1967 V8 Red Mustang Coupe PROJECT

This listing covers a 1967 Ford Mustang coupe fitted with a V8 engine and automatic transmission. It is a running and driving project vehicle, suitable for an enthusiast to improve and complete. The car features rear-wheel drive, power steering and upgraded power-assisted front disc brakes. We originally supplied this Mustang around a year ago to a local teacher. He used the car only occasionally and then decided to sell due to limited time. The vehicle now returns to us and is offered as a usable project.

Mechanical Specification and Recent Upgrades

Engine and Induction

The car uses a period-correct V8 petrol engine with a factory-style induction setup. A new factory specification carburettor has been fitted. This replacement unit improves cold starting, idle quality and throttle response. The engine starts readily and settles into a stable idle once running. No obvious misfire or hesitation presents during normal operation at the time of inspection.

Transmission and Driveline

Power is transmitted through an automatic gearbox. The transmission engages drive and reverse cleanly from a standstill. The car moves off without judder and shifts up smoothly under light throttle. Driveline behaviour feels consistent with an older classic used regularly but not fully restored.

Braking System

The previous owner upgraded the braking system to four-pot front disc brakes. These calipers match the type used on period Shelby models. The setup uses power assistance to reduce pedal effort during braking. This configuration provides stronger, more consistent stopping performance than basic single-piston front discs. The rear brakes remain of standard classic Mustang type. Overall braking performance suits regular classic road use when correctly maintained.

Exhaust System

A full factory-style twin exhaust system has been installed from front to rear. This system follows original routing and layout for dual pipes. It improves gas flow compared with older tired exhaust components. The exhaust note remains appropriate for a classic V8 pony car, without excessive volume. The system also helps maintain period-correct appearance under the car.

Driving and Operation

The Mustang starts from cold with normal use of the choke or throttle. Once running, the engine idles steadily at appropriate speed. Gear selection feels positive, and the car pulls away without delay. On the road it tracks straight under light steering input. Power steering reduces effort at low speeds and during parking. There are no immediately obvious abnormal noises from engine, transmission or axle under gentle use. At the time of writing the headlamps, tail lamps, indicators and brake lights operate correctly. The horn also functions as expected. This makes the vehicle practical to drive while further work is planned.

Bodywork and Exterior Condition

The car presents as an honest, driver-grade example rather than a freshly restored show car. Paintwork shows typical age-related marks, chips and minor cosmetic defects. Panel gaps and body lines suit a mid-1960s American production vehicle. Brightwork and chrome require attention to achieve a higher cosmetic standard. We include a replacement front bumper with the sale. This part will assist the next owner in improving the front-end presentation. Glass, door handles and exterior trim appear generally serviceable but would benefit from detailing. Overall, the shell forms a solid base for a progressive cosmetic refresh.

Interior and Cabin

The interior presents in usable condition with age-related wear typical of a classic Mustang. Seats, door cards and carpets show general use and some fading. Interior trim would respond well to cleaning and selective refurbishment. The dashboard layout remains largely original in style. Switchgear and basic instruments function at the time of testing, unless stated otherwise during viewing. The cabin offers a good starting point for an enthusiast to detail, re-trim or upgrade to taste.

Project Scope and Suitability

This 1967 coupe suits a buyer seeking a running, driving project rather than a complete rebuild. The main focus for most owners will be cosmetic enhancement and light mechanical detailing. Areas such as paint, chrome, weatherstrips and interior trim offer clear scope for improvement. Mechanical upgrades already completed, including the four-pot brakes and twin exhaust, reduce the initial workload. The car can be driven and evaluated while a restoration plan is developed. It should appeal to classic car enthusiasts, hobby restorers and collectors wanting a usable base vehicle.

Viewing and Assessment

As with any vehicle approaching sixty years old, some wear, corrosion and imperfections should be expected. Prospective buyers should inspect the car in person wherever possible. We recommend assessing bodywork, chassis structure, mechanical components and interior trim to personal standards. Buyers should budget for further work, maintenance and upgrades according to their intended use. This description reflects the car at the time of writing and is provided as a helpful guide only. A detailed physical inspection will always offer the best understanding of condition and project scope.

The car comes fully registered with a UK V5C document.
