SOLD: “Iris” 1965 Ford Mustang 289 Auto Fastback

It’s March 3rd 1965 and in England it had been -6 degrees centigrade overnight.  By lunchtime it was snowing the temperature not getting above 0.  Meanwhile in Los Angeles California it was 71 degrees Fahrenheit and the sun was shining in down town LA. A Ford dealership is readying another Mustang for collection by its new owner,  this one being a Fastback A code car.  At 1pm, the owner takes the keys, fires her up and drives off into the Californian sunshine, driving what was to become a piece of automotive history.

Move forward 49 years, cross the pond, and we have that car. Yes, the actual car that left that LA dealership in March 1965.  Having spent most of its life in California she is without rust.  In late 2012 she under went a period correct, no expense spared restoration, turning the clock back to the day she left the dealer, down to the correct under body finish of red oxide (San Jose assembly plant).

We believe this to be one of if not the best 1965 Fastbacks in the UK, having only covered 1,000 miles since her total restoration.  We believe this is the closest to a new 1965 Mustang you can buy. Everything is period correct down to the tyres and delivery stickers and instructions on the sun visors and heater controls.  So if you want to experience that day back in March 1965 this is the car for you.

Essex Mustang Centre are pleased to offer maybe the best 1965 Mustang in the UK.  Manufactured on 25/1/1965 and sold on 3/3/1965 from an LA ford dealer ship.  She is a genuine V8 fastback A code car with auto transmission and power steering finished in poppy red.

She was completely restored to factory spec in 2012 at a cost believed to be in excess of $80,000 and had covered just over 1000 miles since her restoration.  The rebuild consisted of engine and auto box re-build, rewired from front to rear, new paint inside and out.  The interior was completely replaced including carpets seats headliner dash top and switch gear.  All chrome work has been replaced both internally and externally.

The underside as can be seen in the images is as new with new steering, suspension running gear, gas tank, brake lines, fuel lines and exhaust.  New road wheels wear period correct tyres.  This is in our opinion as close to a new 1965 mustang as you can acquire.
